Conestoga High Sailing Team Stands Out In Main Line Competition

Conestoga High School's Sailing Team took first and second place overall in the Main Line Scholastic Sailing Association's Championship.

BERWYN, PA — Conestoga High School's Sailing Team took first and second place overall in the Main Line Scholastic Sailing Association's Championship this spring after competing in 38 races in competition with several high schools in the Philadelphia region.

The Conestoga Pioneers’ Varsity sailors won 28 of the races sailed on the Delaware River at Corinthian Yacht Club in Philadelphia. The competition brought a wide range of challenging conditions, from strong winds to light air, to tough currents in order to take the top honors, the team's news statement said.

Sailing Varsity for the Pioneers were seniors Charlie McKenzie (skipper) and Emily Dougherty (crew) in the A Boat, and sophomore Connor Demming (skipper) and junior Dermott Breault (crew) in the B Boat.

The Junior Varsity team consisted of freshman Bella Cremer (skipper) and junior JP Small (crew) in the A Boat, and sophomores Briana Hummel (skipper) and Maggie Dirkes (crew) in the B Boat.

The Varsity and JV sailing athletes competed in the FJ class boat, which has become the standard at the collegiate level for sailing.

In addition to the Varsity and JV teams, Conestoga had sailors who participated in the Open Series for rising racers, competing in the 420 class boat. Representing 'Stoga in the Open were junior Izzy Lacointe, freshman Chloe Lacointe, and sophomore Jack Kelly.

Chloe Lacointe took first overall in that series and Izzy Lacointe placed third.

Conestoga Sailing is a club racing team sponsored by Conestoga High School in Berwyn. The team competes in the Main Line Scholastic Sailing Association (MLSSA) and is based out of Corinthian Yacht Club in Philadelphia. The Corinthian sailing program is led by coach Angus Robertson.
