Credit Card Thieves Targeting Main Line Shoppers: Police

This time of year, people are making many purchases. But thieves targeting the Main Line are looking to use your money for their shopping.

MAIN LINE, PA — Credit cards thieves seem to have chosen the Main Line area as their favorite place to find victims, as police in several municipalities have reported credit cards thefts recently.

Police in Radnor, Lower Merion, Tredyffrin, and Haverford have all reported incidents in which credit cards were stolen from victims then used or tried to be used at area stores.

Most recently, a shopper at the Ardmore Trader Joe's was pick pocketed on Dec. 2, Lower Merion Police said.

The victim discovered their wallet was missing at about 11:45 a.m. She then got fraud alerts regarding her cards, police said.

Police said the cards were used at the Target Store on Monument Road.

Security footage showed the suspect is a short, black woman who was wearing a black sun hat, a black thigh length sweater, white or cream-colored sweatshirt, black leggings and carrying a dark bag.

In Haverford Township, police reported two recent incidents of illegal purchases with stolen credit cards.

The first occurred at 10 a.m. on Dec. 1 at the West Township Line Road Lowes.

According to police, the victim left her wallet at the store and then two of her credit cards were used to make purchases.

Then about 10:45 a.m. on Dec 2. Police said the victim's TD Bank Credit Card was used to make unauthorized purchases.

Back on Nov. 29, Lower Merion Police said a man and women tried to use what was likely a stolen credit card at a CVS store.

The pair may have been behind a wallet and credit card theft that occurred Nov. 18 in Tredyffrin.

In that incident, the victim was shopping at Trader Joe's in the Gateway Shopping Center when their wallet and credit cards were stolen.

After they were taken, Tredyffrin Police said the cards were used at the Apple Store and Victoria's Secret in King of Prussia.

Also in November, Radnor Police said credit cards were stolen from a health club in Wayne.

The theft occurred at Club La Maison in Wayne between 12:10 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Nov. 15.

Police said during that time, five credit and debit cards were taken from a victim's wallet, which was in a locker at the club.

After being taken, the cards were used in the King of Prussia area to make fraudulent purchases, police said.

Police said there is no video surveillance available of the theft.

Anyone with information on these thefts and illegal purchases should call 911 and ask for local police.
