Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?: No

Education: I earned my MBA from the Wharton School in Finance and International Business, and my BS from Duke in Electrical Engineering, where I graduated cum laude.

Occupation: Over a 34-year career, I've been a senior executive at various companies, including CEO and Chairman at JG Wentworth, President at Kemper Auto and Home, COO at National Liberty, and Senior VP at Ace Group. I currently serve on several corporate boards. I am proud of my eight-plus years serving the community on the Board of Philabundance.

Previous or Current Elected or Appointed Office: Over my career, I've been elected to three NYSE listed public and four private company boards as well as the Philabundance board. I've been elected President of the Chesterbrook Civic Association multiple times over the past 17 years. I was appointed to the Tredyffrin Township 10 Year Comprehensive Planning Committee.

Why are you seeking elective office?: After working on the Tredyffrin Township 10-year Comprehensive Plan, which was completed this March, I have a good understanding of the challenges facing our township including, stormwater, funding for emergency services, and longer-term re-development. I have the experience and time to devote to solving these important problems and keeping Tredyffrin the wonderful community we all call home.

The single most pressing issue facing our township is: Township residents have identified repeatedly that stormwater and flooding are the top issues along with keeping taxes low. There are three areas we can make a real difference: 1. Careful redevelopment of the township with a focus on stormwater management; 2. Strategic investment in key stormwater control measures; 3. Enforcement of our codes with organizations like the Turnpike Commission to ensure the proper mitigation of stormwater.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?: In one word — Experience. I have a deep personal understanding of Tredyffrin and our needs, backed by proven expertise and financial management skills. This includes 30 years as a senior business executive, 17 years advocating for our community as President of the Chesterbrook Civic Association, and working closely with other community leadership on the latest 10-year Comprehensive plan.
I am a 27-year resident who raised 3 children here. I have a track record of getting things done in Tredyffrin Township. My daughter was an active volunteer at the Berwyn Fire Company for 14 years, including serving as an EMS lieutenant. As a proud parent, this gives me a unique insight into the need for sustainable funding for this vital community service.

If you are a challenger, in what way has the current board or officeholder failed the community?: No one has failed the community. The current Board of Supervisors and township staff have done great work. Remember, this is a public service position and I feel grateful for all the past and present officeholders who have given their time and served the community. I believe my financial and executive experience will be a strong addition to the board of supervisors and will bring a unique outlook in problem-solving for the township and our resident

Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform:

  • I am committed to keeping taxes low while maintaining a sustainable budget.
  • I will work to establish a long-term funding solution for our fire companies and support public safety.
  • I will work toward addressing stormwater issues and improving township infrastructure.
  • I will use my experience running corporations and serving the community to keep Tredyffrin a great place to live and work.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?: I’ve been fighting for our community for years. For example: I was part of the group which fought the turnpike when they were planning a slip ramp off of Valley Forge Road. I also led the charge in Chesterbrook when the turnpike was planning to seize multiple properties for their widening project. I worked with the township when the Chesterbrook Shopping center was redeveloped and fought for the Patriot’s Path along Chesterbrook Blvd. I helped fight against installing a lighted billboard in Paoli.
I’ve managed people and budgets throughout my career and am not afraid to make difficult decisions. For example, after joining JG Wentworth as CEO during the financial crisis in 2009, I took the company through bankruptcy, recapitalized the company, and in 2013 took it public on the NYSE. We added over 300 jobs to Tredyffrin Township along the way.

The best advice ever shared with me was: Early in my career my manager shared with me, "Spend the company's money as if it were your own." I've been following this advice ever since. I can assure you I will carefully spend taxpayer money as if it is my own.

What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?: I have lived in Tredyffrin for over 27 years. My wife and I raised our three children here and we plan to stay here for the long term. I care deeply about this township and its residents - as demonstrated by my very strong record of community service. I promise you that if elected, I will work as hard as possible using all the skills gained over my career to keep the things that work great, working great, and improve the things that need improvement, so we can all proudly call Tredyffrin Township home.
