Devon, Berwyn Named Two Best Local Suburbs For Families

According to a new survey, Devon and Berwyn are the two best suburbs in the Philadelphia area to raise a family.

The survey by real estate website Movoto.com, released last week, ranked Devon first and Berwyn second in its survey of best local suburbs for families. Bryn Mawr was ranked third, Fort Washington fourth and Blue Bell fifth.

Audubon, Ardmore, Wyncote, Plymouth Meeting and Oreland rounded out the top ten.

Data considered included unemployment and crime statistics, commenting distance and schools rankings, as well as input from local real estate agent Karen Horn.

Devon kicks off our list of the best Philadelphia suburbs for families with high marks from GreatSchools.org. Families have their pick of modern condos, as well as spacious craftsman and Colonial style homes. Nature loving families will enjoy strolling through the serene Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens. Residents are also conveniently connected to all the action in downtown Philadelphia by SEPTA.

And Berwyn:

Berwyn earns the second spot on our list with a range of housing options for families, including lovely Tudor style homes, charming craftsman houses, and classic Colonial style homes. Active families will love hiking along Trout Creek in Teegarden Park, while avid young readers join a reading program or check out a new book at the Eastown Library and Information Center.
