Devon's Frances Showell, 102, Passes Away

Frances Victoria Showell, daughter of the late Louis and Adelaide Thornton was born April 15, 1913 in Devon, PA. She departed her life on Thursday, September 17, 2015, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, DE, at the age of 102 surrounded by her family.

She was educated in the public schools of Media, PA. She was a member of Union Wesley United Methodist Church in Clarksville, DE.

She resided in Bayard, DE for 69 years; after which she moved with her daughter in Milton, DE.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Showell; one daughter Harriet “Jane” Manuel; and two grandsons, Norman R. Manuel, Sr. and Tracy Manuel; and one great grandson, Forrest Manuel, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted daughter, Doris Sturgis of Milton, DE; one son Wayne (Nora) Williams of Philadelphia, PA; four grandsons, Anthony Manuel of Frankford, DE, Robert Manuel and Dwight (Margaret) Manuel both of Selbyville, DE, and Forrest (Selena) Manuel, Sr. of Suffolk, VA,; four granddaughters, Sherry (James) Gibbs of Dagsboro, DE, Monica Manuel and Melissa Manuel both of Frankford, DE, and Angie Williams of Philadelphia, PA; one sister, Louise (General Julius) Becton of Fort Belvoir, VA; sixteen great- grand children, a host of great-great and great-great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A funeral service and celebration of her life will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, September 25, 2015 at Union Wesley United Methodist Church in Clarksville, DE where there will be a viewing from 10 AM – 12:00 PM. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
