King of Prussia – A series of traffic stoppages are scheduled Saturday (June 1) at two locations on U.S. Route 202 in Chester County as part of the ongoing operation to widen and improve 6.5 miles of the expressway in Tredyffrin and East Whiteland townships, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced today.

Northbound and southbound Route 202 traffic will be stopped between the Chesterbrook and Route 29 interchanges three times Saturday (June 1) from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. to raise utility lines over the highway near the Cedar Hollow Road overpass. Each traffic stoppage will last approximately 15 minutes.

Northbound Route 202 traffic also will be stopped between the U.S. Route 30 and Route 401 interchanges several times Saturday (June 1) from 12:01 a.m. to 7 a.m. for the removal of beams from the bridge carrying Route 202 over Route 401. Each stoppage will last 15 minutes.

Northbound Route 202 also will be reduced to a single lane approaching the Route 401 Interchange from 10 p.m. Friday (May 31) to 10 a.m. Saturday (June 1) for bridge demolition.

In addition, Route 401 will be closed and detoured at the Route 202 Interchange in East Whiteland Township from 10 p.m. Friday (May 31) to 7 a.m. Saturday (June 1) for the removal of beams from the Route 202 overpass.

During the Route 401 closure, eastbound traffic will be detoured onto Route 202 south to the Route 30 Business exit, and then left on Route 30 (Lancaster Avenue) and right onto the ramp to Route 202 north to Route 401.

Route 401 westbound traffic will be detoured onto Route 202 north to the Matthews Road off-ramp at the Route 29 Interchange, then right on Matthews Road, right on Route 29 north (Morehall Road) and right on Swedesford Road to the ramp to Route 202 south to Route 401.

All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Crews are currently working to widen Route 202 to six lanes from north of the Route 401 Interchange to just south of the Swedesford Road Interchange as part of a $105.4 contract. Richard E. Pierson Construction Company, Inc. of Woodstown, N.J. is the general contractor. The project is expected to finish in mid-2014.

The work to widen Route 202 to six lanes from north of Route 401 to Route 30 began in March 2013 and will continue through 2016 under a $63.3 million contract to Alan A. Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County.
