The Final Hours: What Tredyffrin-Easttown Residents Need to Know About The Pope's Visit

Pope Francis arrives in Philadelphia in less than 24 hours. What you need to know at the last minute

After more than a year of planning, Pope Francis’ historic visit to Philadelphia is set to begin in less than 24 hours. The Pope arrives in town Saturday morning.

What do you know need to know as a resident of Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships:

- On September 9 the Township declared a State of Emergency for the weekend of the Pope’s visit, due to traffic and train congestion in the area.

- According to an update from the Township last week, parking will be restricted on Lancaster Ave. as well as other local roads (see map here). North Valley Road will be closed between Paoli Plaza and Central Avenue.

- Car access to the Paoli train station will be limited to drop off and pick up only.

- Main Line Taxi is available to arrange rides to and from SEPTA train stations and parking lots.

Most of all, the Township wishes to encourage safety.

“Of paramount importance is the safety and well-being of our residents, businesses, and visitors. The Township and SEPTA will continue to communicate through available resources to ensure that everyone is made aware of any situations that may affect you,” Police Superintendent Anthony Giamo said in a statement.

The following items are prohibited through the security checkpoints in Philadelphia:

• Aerosols

• Ammunition

• Animals, except for service animals

• Backpacks and bags exceeding 18” x 13” x 7”

• Balloons

• Bicycles

• Drones

• Explosives, firearms, or weapons

• Glass, thermal, or metal containers

• Hard-sided coolers (soft-sided thermal coolers are allowed)

• Laser pointers

• Mace or pepper spray

• Packages

• Selfie sticks

• Signs exceeding 5’ x 3’ x 1/4” made of any material except cardboard, poster board, or cloth

• Structures

• Supports for signs and placards

• Toy guns
