The Headmaster's Half Day
The Phelps School treated its students to a surprise half-day celebration of sports and community this October.

To open its fall long-weekend with a bang, The Phelps School surprised its students with a rollicking Headmaster’s Half Day on its Malvern campus the other week. Assembled on the premise of an all-school photo on Thursday, October 15 after lunch, the students’ smiles widened appreciatively on sight of the Phelps mascot, rolling onto the scene with Head of School, Tony McGeorge, to declare classes cancelled in favor of an afternoon of fun.
The festivities started in the Field House with pick-up soccer games, lawn ball, and cornhole, with faculty and students alike joining in. An ice cream truck parked alongside sweetened the deal. Next, the students trooped down to the Phelps Athletics Center for dunk and three-point contests, along with challenges--such as the surprisingly daunting “dizzy bat”!-- to win Phelps gear and prizes. Post-graduate Caelin Peters and eighth-grader Jadari Georges partnered up to take home top honors for the three-point challenge, while junior Isaiah Miranda received a perfect score in the dunk contest. The afternoon culminated in a scrimmage for the Phelps Prep Basketball Team. In this friendly showdown of Blue and White, the Blue team emerged victorious, thanks in part to the strong showing by post-graduate Jackson Piotrowski, who landed several long range shots. Recent alums Lassana Kesselly (2018) and Arashma Parks (2018) joined in to cheer on the teams, while Billy Wilson (2012) manned the DJ booth and to keep the crowd and players pumped. All in all, a wonderful start to what is sure to be an annual tradition on Sugartown Road.
