Paoli Pols Bring Home The Bacon

Two local legislators get a big thank you from Paoli Businesses.

State Senator Andy Dinniman and State Rep. Diane Milne got a big thank you form the Paoli Business and Professional Association this week for bringing home big bucks for the Paoli Transportation Center Project.  How big? $14.5 million for the development which has been discussed for decades but is now actually moving forward.

Senator Dinniman and Rep. Milne met with members of the Association Thursday.  “I cannot overemphasize the significance of this project for the future of the Paoli region and for our economic growth here in Chester County,” Dinniman said. “We are also investing significant resources in updating and improving train stations in Coatesville, Downingtown, Exton and Parkesburg. The focus will continue to be on the development of Paoli as a regional transportation hub serving the Great Valley economic corridor.”

According to a press release from Dinniman's office Tredyffrin Supervisor John DiBuonaventuro, who represents the township’s western district which includes the Paoli Transportation Project, also attended the meeting.

“Both Senator Dinniman and Representative Milne should be recognized for expending personal political capital in a bipartisan fashion to ensure that a quality transportation bill passed,” DiBuonaventuro said. “Both legislators worked very hard to find compromise and reach a consensus to move us forward. On behalf of the citizens in Tredyffrin’s western district, I want to personally thank Senator Dinniman and Representative Milne for their support and for helping to keep this incredibly important transportation project on track.”

According to a press release from Milne's office Milne has championed development of a new multi-modal transportation center since he was first elected in 2006 and said he is encouraged that the recent funding package will allow the project to move from vision to reality. In remarks at an event celebrating passage of the legislation, Milne commended the Paoli Business Association and groups like it as one key reason why the project has continued to remain at the forefront of the minds of many decision makers.

“This kind of project happens because of a local, concerted effort by organizations like the Paoli Business Association to keep the public sector paying attention to the importance of the project,” Milne said at the event on Thursday. “I have enjoyed working with the Paoli Business Association over the years. They do great work in the community.”

Ed Auble, president of the Paoli Business Association, said the new funding package will allow all of the discussions about the train station become a reality, because it provides the substantive financial backing to allow a project of that magnitude to get off the ground.

“It is so exciting, because if you were to leave Paoli and come back in eight to 10 years, you won’t even recognize it, and that’s all because of the train station,” Auble said.

The train station project remains in the planning and approval phase and ultimately is expected to require a total of about $120 million for a station, new bridge and roadway infrastructure extending Darby Road, parking and track improvements.Milne has championed development of a new multi-modal transportation center since he was first elected in 2006 and said he is encouraged that the recent funding package will allow the project to move from vision to reality.
