PennDOT Extends Expiration Dates On Commercial Driver Licenses
Commercial driver's licenses and learner's permits that expired in March 2020 will remain valid into February 2021.
HARRISBURG, PA — Commercial driver's license expirations that were extended due to the pandemic have been further extended and will be valid into February 2021, the state department of transportation announced this week.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced Wednesday that expiration dates for commercial driver licenses and commercial learner's permits will be extended for Pennsylvania residents in response to statewide COVID-19 mitigation efforts.
The following items' expiration dates will be extended:

- The expiration date for a commercial learner's permit scheduled to expire from March 16, 2020, through Feb. 22, 2021, is extended through Feb. 22, 2021.
- The expiration date for commercial driver licenses scheduled to expire from March 16, 2020, through Feb. 22, 2021, is extended through Feb. 22, 2021.
Expiration extension deadlines on a non-commercial driver's license, photo identification cards, learner's permits, and camera cards ended on Aug. 31, 2020. That means drivers who don't require the commercial (CDL) licensing must still renew their licenses as they expire.
However, Diego Sandino of PennDOT explained that non-commercial licenses are renewable online and that for now, those renewals will use the photo that is on file, rather than requiring people to get a new photo in person.

Driver and vehicle online services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and include driver's license, photo ID, and vehicle registration renewals; driver-history services; changes of address; driver license and vehicle registration restoration letters; ability to pay driver license or vehicle insurance restoration fee; driver license and photo ID duplicates; and schedule a driver’s exam. There are no additional fees for using online services.
