PennDOT Plans Restrictions on Route 202, Route 401
Motorists should expect delays mostly between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. in Tredyffrin and East Whiteland portions of the highway.

King of Prussia – Motorists traveling on U.S. Route 202 in the Great Valley area of Chester County will encounter nighttime restrictions next week plus daytime lane closures and an overnight detour on Route 401 for construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced today.
The scheduled activities are part of PennDOT’s two contracts totaling $168.7 million to improve travel and reduce congestion by rebuilding and widening Route 202 between the Swedesford Road and U.S. Route 30 interchanges in Tredyffrin and East Whiteland townships, respectively.

The upcoming work schedule is:
•     On Tuesday through Thursday (May 28-30), Route 202 north will be reduced from two lanes to one between the Route 30 and Route 401 interchanges from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning. Northbound travelers also will face intermittent traffic stoppages of up to 15 minutes on Tuesday night, as well as intermittent closures of the northbound off-ramp to Route 401;
•     On Tuesday (May 28), Route 202 north will be reduced from two lanes to one between Route 29 and the Cedar Hollow Road overpass from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning for paving. The on-ramp from Matthews Road to Route 202 north also will be closed during this operation;
•     On Wednesday (May 29), Route 202 south will be reduced from two lanes to one from north of Route 401 to the Route 30 Interchange from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday(May 30) for construction of emergency pull-off areas;
•     On Friday (May 31), Route 202 north and south will be reduced from two lanes to one from north of the Route 401 Interchange to the Route 30 Interchange from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday (June 1) for bridge construction. Intermittent traffic stoppages also will occur in one or both directions; and
•     On Saturday (June 1), Route 202 north will be reduced from two lanes to one approaching the Swedesford Road overpass at the Route 29 Interchange from 12:01 a.m. to 10 a.m. for paving.
In addition, lane closures will be in place on Route 401 between Moores Road and Mill Lane on Tuesday through Saturday (May 28-June 1) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning for overhead bridge construction.
Route 401 also will be closed and detoured at the Route 202 Interchange from 10 p.m. Friday (May 31) to 7 a.m. Saturday (June 1) for removal of beams from the Route 202 overpass. If rain postpones the Friday night operation, the road closure and detour will be in place from 10 p.m. Saturday (June 1) to 7 a.m. Sunday (June 2).
During the Route 401 closure, eastbound traffic will be detoured onto Route 202 south to the Route 30 Business exit, and then left on Route 30 (Lancaster Avenue) and right onto the ramp to Route 202 north to Route 401.
Route 401 westbound traffic will be detoured onto Route 202 north to the Matthews Road off-ramp at the Route 29 Interchange, then right on Matthews Road, right on Route 29 north (Morehall Road) and right on Swedesford Road to the ramp to Route 202 south to Route 401.
All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
Crews are currently working to widen Route 202 from north of the Route 401 Interchange to just south of the Swedesford Road Interchange as part of a $105.4 contract. Richard E. Pierson Construction Company, Inc. of Woodstown, N.J. is the general contractor. The project is expected to finish in mid-2014.
The work at the Route 401 Interchange and on Route 202 from north of Route 401 to Route 30 began in March 2013 and will continue through 2016 under a $63.3 million contract to Alan A. Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County.
