Reading With Animals

It was hard to tell who enjoyed it more...the kids or their new furry friends.

Four therapy dogs from PALs for Life listened while being petted and loved by young readers Monday afternoon at the Easttown Library and Information Center.

Walls-E,a golden retriever, Delia a mixed breed, Caleb, a black collie and Roscoe described by his Pals or Life handler as a "mut" were soaking in the stories read by younger elementary schoolers ages 5 and up who signed up for the free event.

Library Literacy Trainer Jane Klein says reading to the animals is a great motivator for the young readers. She says many practice reading aloud before the event to be ready and to impress the pets.

This was the last of three monthly after school Reading to the animals sessions for the fall. Klein says the program will resume in the spring. The library runs the program in the evening over the summer.
