'Sickened:' Tredyffrin Police Speak Out Against Floyd Killing

The relationship between Tredyffrin police and the community is "fundamentally based on respect, and compassion​," Supt. Michael Beaty said.

TREDYFFRIN TOWNSHIP, PA — Police in Tredyffrin Township are "sickened and angered" by the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin's hands.

Tredyffrin Police Superintendent Michael Beaty issues a statement Tuesday on Floyd's death and how the police department moving forward.

"As the Superintendent of Police for Tredyffrin Township, I along with the Officers and staff that make up this agency would like to express our deepest sympathies to the family, friends and to the community of George Floyd," he said. "Collectively we are all sickened and angered by what we watched not only in the act itself, but the lack of assistance rendered to Mr. Floyd. To us, this was and always will be unacceptable."

Beaty went on to say the relationship between Tredyffrin police and the community is "fundamentally based on respect, and compassion" and that offices are sworn to protect life and property.

"The members of the Tredyffrin Township Police Department are dedicated to providing quality law enforcement service to the citizens of our community while adhering to the highest ethical and professional standards," he said. "We realize there is much more work to be done and are committed to making that happen."
