Simple Steps that Could Save Your Business from Disaster

The Berwyn Fire Company would like to take a minute to remind all business operators in Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships to take a second and conduct a fire safety walk through of your business location.

The following information, posted on the Berwyn Fire Company website could help save lives and property in your shop or office in case of fire

Make sure that all emergency exits are clear of merchandise, boxes, and other debris and can be opened from the interior. This includes keeping all stairways clear as well. The photos to the right demonstrates a dangerous condition in a stairwell as well as a blocked emergency exit.

It is important to check the functionality of all fire detection and sprinkler/suppression systems. If there is a question about the operation of the system, contact your alarm company in order to have a technician come out and service the system and provide necessary training on the system.

In addition, make sure that all electrical rooms, sprinkler areas and the areas around any junction boxes are free and clear of debris so that they are accessible to emergency personnel.

Another item to check is fire extinguishers. Each fire extinguisher should be certified yearly by a licensed extinguisher company. As seen on the fire extinguisher to the right, each extinguisher should be tagged as inspected as well.
