'Stoga's Spoont Named National Student Journalist of the Year
The high school senior will receive a $3,000 scholarship with the award.

Conestoga High School senior Jenna Spoont has been named the 2013 National Student Journalist of the Year by the Journalism Education Association, according a press release from Tredyffrin-Easttown School District.
The announcement was made Saturday at the organization's national spring conference in San Francisco, according to the release:Â
Spoont’s portfolio was judged at the JEA/NSPA (National Scholastic Press Association) spring conference from among 35 other states’ entries. Spoont will receive the $3,000 Sister Rita Jeanne Scholarship (named for former, long-time JEA treasurer) for her accomplishment.
Spoont is managing editor of The Spoke, Conestoga’s student newspaper, which also received a JEA award for its online presence earlier this year, and a member of the school's Morning Announcements. Â

She plans to attend the School of Media and Public Affairs at The George Washington University’s Honors Program, according to TESD.
Spoont's recognition upholds a tradition of journalistic excellence in the district. In 2009, Conestoga student Henry Rome won the Journalist of the Year award.
