Teresa's Next Door in Wayne to Celebrate Talk Like Pirate Day

"Piraat Day" will feature costumes, accents and Van Steenberge Piraat

Teresa’s Next Door in Wayne is planning its annual observance of Talk Like a Pirate Day on September 19. The bar actually calls it “Piraat Day,” since they’ll be serving Van Steenberge Piraat, although the event is listed as an official Talk Like a Pirate Day party on the TLAPD’s official homepage.

Teresa’s calls the event “An annual favorite day full of pirate costumes, silly accents and copious amounts of Van Steenberge Piraat.”

International Talk Like a Pirate Day was founded in 1995 by a pair of friends from Oregon, John Baur (Ol’ Chumbucket) and Mark Summers (Cap’n Slappy). The event’s Wikipedia page says the idea came when they were playing racketball, one of them was injured and exclaimed “arrrrgh.” Humorist Dave Barry later popularized the concept in his column, and now events featuring costumes and pirate talk are held around the world.
