Tredyffrin Detective Receives 'Excellence' Award
The recognition for Brian Hughes, who investigated a series of thefts from elderly victims in 2012, comes from the Delaware Valley Association of Police Professionals.

Tredyffrin Police Detective Brian Hughes was recently honored with the Legion of Excellence Award for Chester County, which he received from the Delaware Valley Association of Police Professionals.
Hughes is a 21-year member of the Tredyffrin Township Police Department. The award recognizes his exceptional investigative work in 2012, during which he caught the culprit behind a series of thefts from elderly residents of Highgate Assisted Living in Paoli, according to a press release from Tredyffrin Police (PDF):
Tens of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry was stolen by the defendant, Regina Oliver. Oliver, a caregiver, resides in the 1900 block of Wallace Street, Philadelphia and was charged with crimes against at least eight victims, some in excess of 90 years old. Oliver waived her right to a preliminary hearing this past January of 2013 and is pending trial.

- 2007: investigated a highly complex “skimming” group populated by Eastern European organized crime member Artur Grigoryan. Grigoryan was connected to at least $ 700,000 worth of stolen monies.
- 2007: presented with the Pennsylvania Crime Commission’s Chester County Officer of the Year in 2007 for the capture of serial bank robber Jason Rayford. Rayford robbed the First Penn Bank located in Chesterbrook, as well as other banks in the region.
- 2005: captured bank robber, Paul “P.J.” Cramer after he exited the Wachovia Bank and attempted to flee on foot.
- 1999: awarded the Tredyffrin Township Police Department’s “Officer of the Year” in 1999.
“Detective Brian Hughes is truly an asset to our agency. His dedication to duty and service, which is the shared philosophy of the entire police department, has shown through his numerous successes in the detective division," Police Superintendent Anthony Giaimo said in the release.
"His extra caring and incredible support of crime victims is reflected in this prestigious award presented by the Delaware Valley Association of Police Professionals."
