Tredyffrin-Eastown Schools Will Open Virtually For 3 Weeks

TESD approved all-virtual instruction for reopening for 3 weeks, as the school board considers when it can move safely to in-person class.

TREDYFFRIN TOWNSHIP, PA —Tredyffrin-Eastown School District announced the 2020-21 school year will begin virtually for at least the first three weeks, in a phased reopening plan approved on Wednesday night.

Following a July 29 virtual meeting, the board approved an all-virtual Red Phase reopening plan for the first three weeks of school, beginning Aug. 31.

The phased reopening plan allows parents two options, though. One is participation in a blend of online and in-class instruction that is synchronous, adhering to scheduled class times, though it will offer some activities and resources that can be accessed at any time. Those in this option will open in the all-virtual model between Aug. 31 and Sept. 21. The first option instructional model would alter as the district adjusts phases based on circumstances and ongoing recommendations from health and education authorities.

The other option in TESD is for families to remain all-virtual, using broadcast in-home instruction from the school, but allowing for asynchronous instruction.

The Red Phase plan approved Wednesday will remain in the all-virtual phase for reopening until at least Sept. 21 in what it called "a well measured and considered plan."

Information on changes in instruction and moves to a Yellow or Green Phase will be communication by the school district as they are decided upon. The district said its feedback for decision making included listening to teachers, and that will continue.

The plan was based on recommendations from the Center for Disease Control, the World Health Organization, the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Chester County Health Department.
