Tredyffrin-Easttown Schools Begin Move To Hybrid Learning Oct. 12

TESD board approved the move into hybrid instruction starting Oct. 12, and outdoor sports events may gather up to 250 for events.

TREDYFFRIN TOWNSHIP, PA — Tredyffrin-Easttown School District's board of directors made an anticipated move Tuesday night, approving updates to the reopening plans so schools may begin hybrid instruction Oct. 12.

The board also approved sports gatherings of up to 250 people, outdoors.

Following metrics set by the Chester County Health Department, the district determined it had remained in the range where hybrid instruction was recommended. The district has created a metrics and data page on its website so families can stay informed of weekly numbers.

"The COVID-19 numbers for the week ending Sept. 25 were an improvement over the prior week. We are hoping for two more weeks of positive data to remain on track to begin the phased reopening of our schools on October 12," District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Richard Gusick told parents.

A phased move into a combination of virtual and in-person instruction will start Oct. 12 and be in operation by Oct. 19. The presentation on the transition given in Tuesday night's meeting can be viewed here.

Families still have the option of remaining fully virtual.

"Central to our successful transition is a commitment from everyone to using face coverings, maintaining social distancing of 6 feet or more whenever feasible, and frequent handwashing. These have proven in other areas to reduce the likelihood of viral spread and will contribute to our ability to keep schools open," said Gusick.

The district will require parents or guardians of students participating in hybrid instruction to complete a symptoms screening tool within the two hours before the start of school. Students and staff members who do not feel well must stay home.

Athletic competition is a step closer, also, as Tredyffrin-Easttown School District will join the Central League, after a vote to allow outdoor athletic events with up to 250 persons, including players, staff, and crowd.

"We're anticipating getting ramped up," Gusick said in the meeting.

Indoor gatherings are limited to 25 persons, so the board noted that volleyball will have to take place without indoor spectators.
