Tredyffrin Officer Disagrees With Plea Deal For Defendant Who Assaulted Him: Report

A Tredyffrin police officer spoke out against a plea deal for a defendant who had assaulted the officer.

A Tredyffrin police officer spoke out against a plea deal for a defendant who had assaulted the officer during an investigation into a stolen cell phone, according to the Daily Local News.

Tredyffrin Detective James Konieczny objected to the proposed – and granted, by Common Pleas Judge Anthony Sarcione – Chester County Prison term of 10 t0 23 months and two years of probation, instead advocated for a punishment of at least 23 months in a state prison, the report said.

According to reports, defendant Tyrone Edward King was on his way to work on Oct. 16, 2014, as an automotive dealer in Tredyffrin when he found a smart phone left on the counter of a Dunkin’ Donuts in Devon. On the phone was a text message from the owner’s husband, offering $200 for its return.

However, King reportedly demanded more than that in exchange for its return, which according to officials constituted receiving stolen property. The husband then contacted police, prompting Konieczny to begin conversing with King, impersonating the husband.

The two eventually settled on a price of $260, the News said. When they met, in an Acme parking lot in Devon in the late afternoon, King reportedly tried to flee, pushing the officer in the face several times and taking him to the ground. He was later apprehended by several other officers, himself suffering a broken finger.
