Nearly 200 Pounds of Medications Collected at Drug Take-Back Event

Nearly 100 people turned in old medications at the Tredyffrin Township building Saturday, according to Police Superintendent Anthony Giaimo.

A drug take-back event in Tredyffrin Township over the weekend netted nearly 200 pounds of prescription drugs, according to Police Superintendent Anthony Giaimo.

The event, in which residents voluntarily turned in old or unneeded medications, was organized by the police department as part of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day run by the Drug Enforcement Administration.

"Keeping these drugs out of the hands of our children and out of our environment continues to be our mission," Giaimo wrote in an email, adding that nearly 100 residents came to the township building to turn in old medications.

Giaimo gave credit to Cpl. Allen Dori for overseeing the program and thanked local nonprofit Area Residents Caring and Helping for its support.

Although there was a specific effort to get residents to turn in old medications over the weekend, old prescriptions can be turned in any time at the township building. A MedReturn drug collection box is located in the lobby.
