Unpopular Speed Humps Gone At Gateway

They were the subject of angry comments when they were installed last summer.

Now even the gentler second generation of speed humps are gone at Gateway Shopping Center.

The reason behind the removal of the speed humps, which had been made gentler after drivers expressed anger over the impact of the original speed humps on car suspensions, was not immediately clear.

An eagle-eyed Patch reader and driver alerted Patch to the disappearance of the kinder, gentler, yet still bumpy speed bumps on Monday.

The original speed bumps were installed last summer to help slow traffic in the shopping center. The 'speed hump 10mph' signs and white warning arrows are still in place. Only the prefabricated rubber bumps are missing.

You can see where they left their marks in the blacktop. Patch is looking into the story behind this story and will report details as they become available.
