Airman From Montco Among Victims Of Afghanistan Suicide Bomber
Unthinkable tragedy struck for a Montgomery County family just days before Christmas.

LAFAYETTE HILL, PA - The family of U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant Peter Taub didn’t even know that he was in Afghanistan. He didn’t want his loved ones to worry.
His family only found out, NBC 10 reports, when soldiers turned up at their door on Monday to tell them their worst nightmare: Taub had been killed in a suicide bomb attack on Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.
The bomber, whom the Taliban claim was one of their own, rode a motorcycle into an envoy of NATO troops just outside Bagram. The explosion killed six people and injured two more.

Taub was a 2004 Cheltenham High School graduate.
“(He was) the kindest, most warm-hearted soul that God could take from us,” said Jeff Gallo, a friend Taub’s, who has created a GoFundMe page to help support the family.

As of late Tuesday night, the account had been active for just 12 hours and had already inspired $18,393 in donations from 394 different people.
“His family is strong, and I know they will pull through,” Gallo said. “But far past the immediate shock and sadness of losing Pete, his family will have to move on without their daddy and husband.”
Taub had a wife, Christine, and 3-year-old daughter, Penelope.
“Military families across the country do not have it easy,” Gallo added.
Taub’s brother and father work at a Washington, D.C. restaurant called Bubs and Pops. The restaurant closed following news of Taub’s passing.
“My son, Chef Jon’s brother, Staff Sargeant Peter Taub was one of six killed yesterday in Afghanistan. The restaurant is closed for the rest of this week,” the eatery posted on Facebook.
The Department of Defense did not verify Taub’s death as the official report on the incident has not yet been made public.
