Fort Washington Fire Co. to Hold Annual Flea Market

The Ladies Auxilliary of the Fort Washington all-volunteer Fire Co., will hold its annual flea market Saturday from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The flea market will take place inside the Fort Washington Fire Co.’s new station, located at 1245 Washington Ave.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the fire company holds flea markets twice a year, once during the first weekend of November and on the first weekend in April. According to Sheilagh Wagner, Fort Washington Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary flea market co-coordinator, the event has taken place since at least the 1970s.

“It’s to show support for the local, volunteer firefighters,” Wagner said. “We’re still 100-percent volunteer.”

Any money raised through the flea market will go directly back to the firefighters, Wagner said. She recalled one year Upper Dublin Township provided special nighttime-use reflective jackets for certain members of the company, and funds raised through the Ladies Auxiliary events, helped purchase 10 more such jackets for other responders.

Wagner said that the flea markets can raise nearly $3,000 an event. She said that a majority of the funds come from vendors renting spaces or tables.

According to Wagner vendors have the option to rent a space for $25 and a table for $25. She said that Saturday’s flea market has booked approximately 50 vendors, but could accommodate more, as the flea market will take place in the fire company’s newer and larger station.

In addition to the vendors, the Fort Washington Fire Co. Ladies Auxilliary will also have refreshments and baked good for purchase, a White Elephant table, and raffles for various gift baskets, some of which feature a Mother’s Day basket or gift certificates to local restaurants.
