Hanukkah Begins Sundown Tuesday, Local Events Planned
Celebrate Hanukkah with these local observations.

Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, begins at sundown Tuesday and goes until Dec. 24. The Jewish holiday commemorates the story of the Maccabean Revolt against Syrian rulers in present day Israel 2,300 years ago.
Here’s a look at some local celebrations and observances:
- Chanukah at Montgomery Mall will be presented Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. by the Chabad Hebrew School.
- Lansdale will hold a menorah lighting Tuesday at Railroad Plaza. The Horns of Hanukkah will perform. The event starts at 6 p.m.
- Chanukah at Willow Grove Park Mall will be held Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Fountain Court in front of Sear. Chabad Lubavitch will do a Menorah lighting ceremony, plus there will be art projects and free giveaways.
- A Grand Menorah Lighting will be held Wednesday at Jenkinton Square. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. and will feature songs, food, entertainment and more. Click here for details.
- The Shoppes at Valley Square in Warrington will hold a Hanukkah celebration on Thursday at 6 p.m. Click here for more information.
- The Philadelphia Chanukah Parade is Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. Click here for more information.
- Lubavitch of Montgomery County, 1311 Fort Washington Avenue, Fort Washington, will host a celebration on Dec. 21 at 12:30 p.m. The celebration will include a Menorah lighting, arts and crafts, food and live entertainment.
