Montco Business Owner Did Not Pay $84K In Taxes: IRS

The owner of a local landscaping company spent years not paying his taxes, authorities said. He faces years in prison.

ORELAND, PA -- The owner of a Montgomery County landscaping company was convicted on tax evasion charges after he failed to pay what he owed for several years, authorities said.

D. Adam Menko, of Oreland, faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

"It's tax season, a time when honest and law-abiding taxpayers are sitting down to compute and pay their fair share," said Thomas Fattorusso, the IRS Criminal Investigation Special Agent in Charge. "It is disheartening to hear of the likes of Mr. Menko, who takes steps to avoid paying their fair share."

Menko owned a landscaping and concrete construction company, which held his name, according to the Philadelphia Field Office of the IRS.

From 2013 to 2017, Menko failed to maintain complete records, and used a check cashing agency to cash income receipt checks, officials said.

He also paid business expenses in cash, and did not file personal income taxes in those years, either.

Menko pleaded guilty to the tax evasion charges. US Attorney Richard Barrett prosecuted the case.

Sentencing is forthcoming.
