Names Of 2015 Hurricanes That Could Affect Montgomery County

Usually, we don’t know the name of an incoming hurricane or tropical storm until we’re already at the grocery store stocking up on items and battening down the hatches.
In the past, Hurricanes Sandy (2012) and Irene (2011), along with 2013’s Tropical Storm Andrea, have significantly affected southeastern Pennsylvania.Â
We’ve already seen tropical storms Ana, Bill and Claudette in the early 2015 hurricane season.

Since 1953, the World Meteorological Organization has maintained a list of hurricane names for the Atlantic, Eastern North Pacific and Central North Pacific.

In the Atlantic, there are six lists of names that rotate every six years. For bigger storms—like Katrina, Ivan or Sandy—names are permanently retired and replaced with new ones.
The names are in alphabetical order, and if one season goes over the pre-planned names, it switches over to the Greek alphabet for naming.
