RECARO Issues Voluntary Recall Of Car Seats

RECARO Child Safety, LLC has announced a voluntary product recall for its ProRIDE and Performance RIDE Convertible Car Seats. The company found that in the event of a crash, the child restraint could fail to protect the child from contacting interior surfaces of the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.

The units are sold across Montgomery County and in much of the eastern United States.

The company, in a statement, said during product evaluation and fiscal year testing with National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, it was discovered that a small section of some ProRIDE and Performance RIDE shells may crack or detach from the main shell during a crash.

The recall affects 173,063 ProRIDE and Performance RIDE units all manufactured before June 9, 2015.

The company says the shell cracking may occur when the child restraint is installed forward-facing, has the top tether strap attached and is being used with a child who weighs more than 52 lbs. No injuries or serious problems have been reported.

The models affected by the recall include were manufactured between April 9, 2010 to June 9, 2015 and include the following models: RECARO ProRIDE and Performance RIDE manufactured under the Part/Model Numbers 332.01.AK21, 332.01.KAEC, 332.01.KAEG, 332.01.KK91, 332.01.MC11, 332.01.MJ15, 332.01.QA56, 332.01.QA9N, 332.01.QQ11, 332.01.QQ14, 332.01.QQ95, 333.01.CHIL, 333.01.HABB, 333.01.HAZE, 333.01.JEBB, 333.01.JETT, 333.01.KNGT, 333.01.MABB, 333.01.MARI, 333.01.MNGT, 333.01.PLBB, 333.01.PLUM, 333.01.REBB, 333.01.REDD, 333.01.ROBB, 333.01.ROSE, 333.01.SABB, 333.01.SAPH, 333.01.SLBB, 333.01.SLTE, 333.01.VIBB, 333.01.VIBE

“We take great pride in providing the best possible products and service to our consumers and their children, focusing on safety and protection,” said John Riedl, president of RECARO Child Safety in a statement released Tuesday. “That’s why even though there have been no reported incidents in the field, we are acting quickly and will continue to work under NHTSA’s guidance to correct this issue.”

Company officials say if you have RECARO ProRIDE and Performance RIDE you should continue to use it as instructed in their manual. Those with affected products who registered their car seat will be notified via mail.

If you are unsure if you registered your car seat and want to check if yours is is affected by the recall can visit recaropromotion.com/RIDErecallSept2015 and input the model number and manufacture date of the car seat. The numbers can be found on a white sticker on the side of the ProRIDE and Performance RIDE.

Consumers affected by the recall will receive a recall kit containing the necessary materials to correct the potential issue.
