Upper Dublin To Participate In Drug Take Back Day

Police departments around Montgomery County are participating in the semiannual Drug Take Back Day this weekend.

More than 42,000 pounds of medications have been collected since the program began in 2010.

The event will be held on Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"Clearly, folks are getting the message that they need to get these medicines out of their homes and have them disposed of in a safe manner," District Attorney Kevin Steele said. "There is a growing awareness of the enormity of the heroin-opioid epidemic and its link to the over-prescription of opioid medications."

Flushing medications down the toilet can also wreak havoc on the environment, leaching into the ground and into ground water, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

This spring's Take Back Day coincides with the DEA's nationwide Take Back Day.
