Archbishop Wood Cancels Open House Over Coronavirus

The cancellation at the Catholic high school in Warminster came as Bucks County officials were urging schools to cancel large events.

WARMINSTER, PA — A spring open house scheduled for this weekend at Archbishop Wood Catholic High School in Warminster has been canceled due to concerns about the new coronavirus.

School officials announced the cancellation Thursday afternoon.

"Please know that this decision to postpone our Spring Open House is solely a precautionary measure," Gary Zimmaro, president of Archbishop Wood, wrote in a letter to the school community. "There have not been any cases of COVID-19 within our school community. Our primary goal is to keep our students, faculty, staff and extended Viking family safe and healthy."

Zimmaro said school officials have been monitoring the virus, known as COVID-19, and custodial staff has been cleaning and sanitizing the campus daily. The decision to cancel the open house came after Bucks County officials urged school districts to consider cancelling or postponing large gatherings.

"It is our hope that with taking these precautionary measures now, we will be able to avoid the possibility of an outbreak within our walls," he wrote. "We appreciate your patience and understanding as we remain vigilant in our efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19."

The school is located at 655 York Rd. in Warminster. The open house had been scheduled for Sunday.
