Centennial Schools To Close For 2 Weeks Over Coronavirus

Centennial was part of an order that closed all Bucks County schools for two weeks on Friday.

WARMINSTER, PA — Schools in the Warminster-based Centennial School District will be among those in Bucks County closed for the next two weeks over concerns about the spread of the new coronavirus.

Starting at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Centennial schools will be closed through Sunday, March 29, district officials announced Friday afternoon.

That period could be extended further, based on "any number of rapidly changing variables," officials said.

"This decision was not made quickly or without significant reflection and discussion," the district said in a statement signed by Superintendent David Baugh. "In fact, the county’s school leaders have spent countless hours working in-district and across the county to evaluate the ever-changing nature of the coronavirus pandemic."

At 11:45 a.m. Friday, Bucks County Board of Commissioners ordered a declaration of disaster emergency and activated the county's Emergency Management Center for support and to coordinate efforts.

During the shutdown, Centennial will cease all services. That includes all special education services, all meetings, activities, athletics and related school events and community uses of school facilities.

No transportation will be provided.

"Everything, in short, is cancelled or postponed," the statement said.

"This closure no doubt raises many more questions than answers," it continued. "The district will work in full cooperation with local, state, and federal authorities to compile information and resources that speak to the closure and its impact on the community."
