Wally served in the United States Army from 1957-1959 and was stationed in Ft. Riley, Kansas. He and Shirley lived in Toms River, NJ until they moved back to Pennsylvania in 1968 because he wanted his daughter to grow up closer to family.

Wally was a mechanic for Warminster Township for 28 years and was formerly active in local politics, serving as a Republican Committeeman for the township and at the county level. Although he loved his work, his family was always the most important thing to him. He spent many Sunday dinners at either his parents' or one of his many aunts and uncles houses for "meatballs and gravy."

In earlier years, Wally and Shirley were avid bowlers and loved to dance, particularly the jitterbug. They were Friday night regulars at the Embers Lounge at Warminster Fire House and could be found dancing the night away with friends. But his favorite activity was riding his motorcycle with his beloved wife and taking trips to the shore. They enjoyed walking the boardwalk together, sometimes only for the day, where they would enjoy pizza and ice cream.
