WARMINSTER, PA — A new Aldi grocery store has been proposed along Street Road in Warminster.

At Thursday night's meeting of the Warminster Township Board of Supervisors, developers laid out initial plans for the supermarket on a nearly 5-acre property that also would be home to a Chase Bank.

The 20,000-square-foot Aldi and 3,100-square-foot bank would be built at the corner of Street Road and Newtown Road. The site has been a parking lot for decades and, before that, was the site of an Oldsmobile dealership.

The proposal is in its early stages. Developers said they wanted to give supervisors a look at what's being planned, but they still need to go before the township's planning commission and be approved by other government offices.

"Personally, for me, for 25 years I've seen a vacant lot with weeds and probably invasive trees growing out of the asphalt," said board Chairman Kenneth Hayes. "So, it'll be a nice improvement."

The project will need some variances approved by Warminster's zoning hearing board, including one involving signs, developers said. It also must be approved by the township's traffic engineers.

Josh Sewald, of Dynamic Engineering Consultants, told supervisors the 4.87-acre property has been largely undeveloped since the 1990s. The Aldi and bank would have 115 parking spaces and Aldi would be open from 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Sewald said.

Addressing drainage concerns, he said the proposal for the site actually would reduce the amount of concrete there by about one acre. The proposal also includes plans for a sidewalk along Street Road.

The Aldi is expected to create 10-15 new jobs and the bank would create as many as six, Sewald said.

Currently, the nearest Aldi to Warminster is located on Easton Road in Warrington.
