Pa. Team Wins Opening Game of Little League World Series

The Taney Youth Baseball Association will play again Sunday at 7 p.m. on ESPN2.

A Philadelphia teen made history in Williamsport Friday.

Pitcher Mo’Ne Davis led the Taney Youth Baseball Association to a 4-0 win against South Nashville in the team’s opening game of the Little League World Series Friday. It was the first time a female player threw a shutout in the Little League World Series.

Mo’Ne, who can throw pitches as fast as 70 mph, is the 18th girl to play in the Little League World Series, according to ABC News.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett visited the Little League Baseball World Series on Friday to cheer for Taney Little League during their first game.

“The Little League World Series, which contributes $32 million to the local economy each year, is another contributor to Pennsylvania’s robust tourism industry that creates thousands of jobs and millions in economic impact,” said Gov. Corbett.

The Taney Youth Baseball Association will play again Sunday against Pearland East Little League from Texas. The game starts at 7 p.m. eastern time and will air live on ESPN2.
