We All Need A Bit Of Hope

Books that can lighten your day

Tracey Reed, Warminster Township Free Library Director

I’m tired of talking about all the things that have happened this year. I’m tired of the platitudes that have become cliché. I’m exhausted just thinking about, well, everything. And many of those that I talk to are of the same mind.

So I want to focus on the positive for the brief time we have together, Reader. I want to take a moment and see beauty and hope. To that end, here is a brief list compiled from several sources of books to restore those feelings that you might have lost. When I read these lists, I realized that there are many people out there, like me, desperate to see the better in the world. These are my favourite from them.

  • I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
  • The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers
  • How To Survive A Plague by David France
  • Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
  • I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai
  • Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston

There are so many more great recommendations in these links. Check them out if you’re looking to have a bit of faith restored. And contact the Library if you’re interested in reading them.

One of the best ways that I’ve found to restore a bit of hope is to talk with others. While we’re still not offering in person programs, and we’ve reduced our hours for the remainder of the year, we still have many ways for you to connect with your community and the world around you. Check out the online calendar of events to find out what’s (virtually) happening @ the Library.
