York Road Safety Improvements Coming In Warminster (ICYMI)

Warminster Township Police have reported more than 160 crashes in that area over the past five years.

WARMINSTER, PA — Officials in Warminster have recognized a section of York Road as a high-accident area and are planning safety improvements there.

Specifically, the township is targeting the patch of York Road between County Line and Street roads. Warminster Township Police have reported more than 160 crashes in that area over the past five years.

According to Public Works Director Eric Hinz, township officials met with PennDOT's traffic safety division last month to request recommendations and possible improvements for the area. That area, Hinz said, has a large number of side streets and businesses concentrated within about a mile.

PennDOT responded with a proposed plan to add improvements designed to increase awareness and reduce speed there. The plan includes the addition of rumble strips on both sides of the center-left turn lanes, dotted lines through side-street intersections, additional road pavement markings and the replacement of speed-limit signs with much larger signs

The work is scheduled to be completed by this summer, Hinz said.

Future improvements also could include digital signs informing motorists of their current speed and larger side-street signs for increased visibility and awareness, he said.
