West Chester Adult Baseball League will honor Hall of Famer Tom Taylor as the league opens its 58th season on Saturday.
Taylor, 77, a former league director who lived in West Chester for his whole life, died in December after an illness. Taylor joined the WCABL in 1969, serving as secretary until 1975 when he took over as league director for Frank Farley, one of the league founders. (Prior to 1984, the league was run by a league director and a board of officers.)
Taylor served for three years as league director, later taking a seat
on the league’s governing board from 1979-1983. He became assistant
executive director under Norm Eavenson from 1984-1988. Taylor was
inducted into the WCABL Hall of Fame in 1990.

“Tom assumed the director’s role when Frank Farley stepped down after
the 1974 season,” said former player-manager and current board member
Bob Ludwick. “Frank was the rock, the guiding light through the
league’s formative years and, for a while, no one was sure what would
happen when he said he was retiring. But, Tom stepped in and the league
didn’t miss a beat. Tom was a great baseball man and he told some great
stories over the years. The WCABL has lost another one of its giants.”
