Chester County Habitat Celebrating 3 Single Moms, Now Homeowners

A homeowner dedication in Coatesville will honor 3 new Chester County Habitat for Humanity families on July 17.

COATESVILLE, PA — Habitat for Humanity of Chester County will acknowledge the hard work and dedication of three women, local businesses, and dedicated volunteers averaging 75 years of age, for their part on the women's path to homeownership.

Habitat for Humanity homeowners Jen Pursell, Veronica Ortiz, and Sheryl Carter are all single mothers who persevered through a pandemic to become homeowners.

They will be celebrated on July 17 in Coatesville at a Homeowner Dedication Ceremony held by Habitat for Humanity of Chester County (HHCC). The event is from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at 416 City View Ave., Coatesville.

"Even through a pandemic, these three single moms helped build the homes that meant a brighter future for their kids," Habitat for Humanity said.

Ortiz and Carter settled on their homes back in December after patiently seeing what the COVID-19 crisis meant for construction deadlines. Pursell settled on her home just last week and with restrictions starting to dissipate, Habitat for Humanity of Chester County said it is finally able to celebrate the hard work these women have devoted to making a better life for their kids.

During the ceremony, HHCC will thank the volunteers and donors that made this moment possible. The average age of HHCC's loyal construction volunteers is 75, Habitat said. Those volunteers continued to come out to the construction site through the pandemic, wearing masks and social distancing. They were able to complete three Habitat homes.

Local businesses also provided "an enormous push to be able to build these three homes," HHCC said.

The Giant Company is giving each family $3,500 towards groceries as a way of congratulating them on their hard work.

Wells Fargo will also be making an announcement that they would like to donate $20,000 toward the Cambria Terrace development as it nears completion, HHCC said.
