D-Town Pitches In To Fix Little League Field Destroyed In Flood
The Downingtown West Little League field, equipment, and even a snack shop freezer have been damaged in this week's mid-playoff flooding.
DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Family Fun Day is postponed and Little League playoffs are a bust, for now, after incessant rains left Downingtown's ballpark under water.
"After the devastating flood that hit our town on June 8, our Little League facilities, fields, and equipment sustained thousands of dollars worth of damage right — in the middle of playoffs," the Downingtown West Little League website said on Thursday.
More than 7 inches of rain fell in Chester County on Tuesday and the National Weather Service put southeastern Chesco under a Flood Watch going into Wednesday. They were correct in their forecast, as waters rose in Brandywine Creek and its tributaries the next day.

Brandon McLean organized a fundraiser to benefit Downingtown West Little League Baseball, and help replaced damaged equipment and structures that include the snack bar building, refrigerated food, a freezer, game supplies, and a batting cage. The fund also will help will trash removal, the site said. McLean posted video of the flooding here.
"We lost thousands of dollars worth of equipment, snack shop freezers and appliances, pallets of field lime and dry up, and the list goes on," McLean said on the GoFundMe page he set up.

The site's goal is to raise $30,000. In its first day up, it has raised more than half of that, with 157 donors giving $15,200.
"We want to let these boys and girls finish strong this year of all others with the COVID challenges we have had! Please consider supporting us with your donation, so we can get back on our feet for these kids!" he added.
One donor to the GoFundMe wrote, "I donated because the DWLL Organization has provided so many families such a positive physical, social, mental health outlet. Time to give back and help out."
