Route 202 Closures Continue During Highway Expansion Project

PennDOT's project to widen and improve Route 202 will cause lane and ramp closures in the area.

Commuters on Route 202 traveling through East Whiteland Township might see lane and ramp closures in the near future during nighttime hours. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced recently that roadwork will be performed 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., April 7 to 11.

PennDOT's full press release with suggested detours is below (emphasis added):

As part of the $63.3 million project to expand U.S. Route 202 to six lanes between the Route 401 and U.S. Route 30 interchanges in East Whiteland Township, Chester County, nighttime lane and ramp closures will be in place next week on northbound Route 202 for shoulder reconstruction and drainage pipe installations, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced today.
Northbound Route 202 will be reduced from two lanes to one between the Route 30 and Route 401 interchanges on Sunday through Thursday (April 7-11) from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning. A northbound lane closure also may be in place Saturday (April 13) from 12:01 a.m. to 10 a.m. if rain cancels work scheduled earlier in the week.
In addition, the northbound ramps at the Route 202/Route 401 Interchange will be closed Tuesday through Thursday (April 9-11) from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for drainage pipe installations. The ramps also may be closed Saturday (April 13) from 12:01 a.m. to 10 a.m. if rain cancels work scheduled earlier in the week.
During the overnight ramp closures, motorists are advised to follow the posted detours. The detours are:
  • Route 202 North off-ramp to Route 401: Northbound Route 202 motorists will exit at the U.S. Route 30/Frazer off-ramp and travel east on Route 30 (Lancaster Avenue) to the intersection of Route 401 and then turn left on Route 401.
  • Route 401 on-ramp to Route 202 North: Follow Route 401 East to the intersection of Swedesford Road, then turn left on Swedesford Road, right on Route 29, left on Mathews Road, and left at the ramp to Route 202 North.

Lane closures with flaggers will be in place on Route 401 between Moores Road and Mill Lane on Monday through Friday (April 8-12) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for utility and drainage installations, bridge construction and barrier placement.
