Police, Barricaded Man Exchange Fire In E. Goshen Thursday Night
A police situation forced residents to shelter in place Thursday night as a suspect shot 15 rounds at police officers who returned fire.

EAST GOSHEN TOWNSHIP, PA — A man is in Paoli hospital after firing 15 rounds from a handgun at police in a gunfire exchange and stand-off that barricaded an East Goshen Township home and forced neighbors to shelter in place Thursday night.
A 34-year-old man is in critical condition in Paoli hospital after the stand-off in which he fired multiple rounds at police and police returned two rounds of fire, injuring the suspect, the Chester County District Attorney's Office said today.

Westtown East Goshen Police arrived at a home in the 900 block of Cornwallis Drive in East Goshen around 6:15 p.m. Thursday. A man was reportedly having a mental health crisis and had threatened to shoot his mother and sister before they fled the home and called police, according to a report from the District Attorney's Office.
Westtown East Goshen Police (WEGO), West Chester Regional Emergency Response Team (WCRERT), and Chester County Detectives all responded, informed that the suspect had access to firearms, officials reported on Friday.

WEGO police tried to establish communication with the man who was inside the home but were unsuccessful, the District Attorney's Office reported. WCRERT also responded to the scene and tried to communicate with the suspect.
It was while WCRERT was working to communicate with the suspect that police said he fired approximately 15 rounds from a handgun at WCRERT members. One round struck near where the emergency response team was standing for cover, officials reported.
A West Chester Regional Emergency Response Team member fired two rounds, striking the suspect, the D.A.'s report said.
Emergency response team members provided first aid before the suspect was transported to Paoli Memorial Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition, officials reported.
According to the Chester County DAO Protocol, the Chester County Detectives, the DAO’s investigative arm, will be the independent agency reviewing this officer-involved shooting.
Chester County Detectives will work with WEGO police and the WCRERT on this matter, the District Attorney's Office said today.
The Chester County District Attorney will make the final decision regarding whether the shooting was justified.
This information is preliminary, pending a full review of all available evidence, the D.A's office said. After the investigation, the District Attorney's Office will provide written findings.
