No Tax Hike in Preliminary School Budget
The West Chester Area School Board balanced the budget in part by using $4.4 million from the district's fund balance.
The 2013-14 school year could be a good one for local taxpayers, as the West Chester Area School Board approved a preliminary budget on Monday night that includes no tax increase, The Daily Local News is reporting. According to the paper, the final budget should be adopted at the school board meeting on May 28.
Under the new budget, Delaware County homeowners within the district will see their taxes fall from 13.78 mills to 13.62 mills, while taxes on Chester County homes will hold at 18.67 mills. According to the paper, in order to keep taxes at this level, the district will use $4.4 million from its fund balance.
The budget passed 8-1, with Sue Tiernan the sole opposing vote.
