Large Funeral Procession For Firefighter Is Tuesday In Bensalem
Schools in Bensalem will close early on Tuesday due to anticipated traffic resulting from the procession.

BENSALEM, PA — A Philadelphia firefighter who died last week while on duty will be laid to rest Tuesday in Bensalem.
Michael Bernstein, 46, died Wednesday after suffering a medical emergency while on duty at Philadelphia International Airport.
A 22-year veteran of the fire department, Bernstein died after being transported to Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, according to the department. He is survived by his wife, three children, parents and other family members.

After viewings Monday evening and Tuesday morning at John F. Givnish Funeral Home in Philadelphia, Bernstein's funeral is set for 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Jerome Church, at 8100 Colfax St. in Philadelphia.
Immediately following that service, he will be taken for burial to Resurrection Cemetery, at 5201 Hulmeville Rd. in Bensalem.

Bensalem Township Police are planning for a large motorcade associated with Bernstein's funeral procession. According to police, it is expected to proceed from Street Road at Interstate 95 to westbound Street Road, then northbound to Hulmeville Road.
It is expected some time between 2-4 p.m., according to police, and motorists are advised to plan accordingly.
To avoid traffic complications associated with the procession, Bensalem Township Schools will be closing early on Tuesday, the district announced Monday afternoon. Dismissal will be as follows:
- Bensalem High School, 11:15 a.m.
- Middle schools, Noon
- Elementary schools, 1 p.m.
All after-school activities are canceled, but evening activities will take place as scheduled, the district announced.
