Bristol Man Charged with 2nd-Degree Child Abuse

A 60-year-old Wood Street man faces one count of second-degree child abuse following a Bristol Police investigation.

A 60-year-old Bristol man was charged with second-degree child abuse on Monday, according to Bristol Police.

Samuel Puckett, 60, of 529 Wood St. Apt. 4, Bristol, was arrested on Monday, Aug. 12 at 6 p.m. and charged with second-degree child abuse following an investigation by Bristol Police.

Rhode Island statute defines second-degree sexual abuse as sexual contact with a victim that the offender either knows is mentally or physically incapacitated or has reason to know.  An offender could alternatively use force or coercion or engage in medical treatment or examination of the victim for the purpose of sexual arousal or gratification.

If found guilty, Puckett could face up to ten years in prison or not less than five years and a fine of up to $5,000.
