BRISTOL, RI - The Bristol Police Department is once again an accredited agency.

The department's accreditation team along with Chief Kevin Lynch recently attended the CALEA conference in Covington, KY where they received national accreditation status.

Chief Lynch noted that it was an exceptional team effort from all members of the department both sworn and civilian and also credits Detective John Nappi for his professional support in the accreditation process.

Earlier this year, the NBC 10 I-Team reported that the Bristol Police Dept. initially lost its accreditation from the Rhode Island Police Accreditation Commission, or RIPAC, as well as the nationally recognized Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, or CALEA.

Christine Crocker, the executive director of the Rhode Island Police Accreditation Commission (RIPAC), told the TV station the department lost its police accreditation because of a "failure to demonstrate compliance with the intent and spirit of the standards, as established by the Commission."

First accredited by CALEA in 2007, the TV station reported that the police department voluntarily withdrew from CALEA in June 2018 and then immediately made attempts to re-enter the program to no avail at the time.
