No-Contact Violator Sentenced, Gamers Get Loud

Bristol Police reported the following arrests and incidents for Sept. 16 through 23:

Arrested:

• Edward Verna, of 237 State St., on a charge of disorderly conduct, on Sept. 16 at about 3 p.m. following what police described as a "father-son dispute" over a car. Verna is scheduled for a Sept. 25 arraignment in Sixth District Court.
• Manuel Barboza, of 381 Wood St., on a felony charge of domestic assault, on Sept. 17 at about 9 a.m. Barboza is free on personal recognizance until a scheduled Nov. 25 hearing.
  
• Jason Almeida, of 173 Bradford St., on a charge of violating a no-contact order, on Sept. 17 at about 5:45 p.m. Officers arrested Almedia again on Sept. 18 at about 5:30 p.m. for violating the order. As a condition of his no-contest plea on Sept. 23, Judge Terence Houlihan sentenced Almeida to 30 days at the ACI with 11 months' probation and an 11-month suspended sentence, and dismissed two previous charges. Houlihan also ordered Almeida to attend domestic abuse counseling, and continued the no-contact order.
  
• Jonathan Child, of Smithfield, on a felony charge of assault with a dangerous weapon, on Sept. 21 at about 9:30 p.m. after his arrest by East Providence Police. Child is currently awaiting trial on a violation of a no-contact order charge brought by Pawtucket Police, and on a separate felony assault charge brought by Providence Police.
  

• Police and fire personnel reported to the Belltower Plaza for a report of smoke coming out of a heat vent on Sept. 16 at about 8:15 a.m. A faulty air conditioning unit was listed as the possible cause.
• Officers noted the removal of a town tree from a location on Opechee Drive on Sept. 16 at about 1:30 p.m.
• After an anonymous report of four juveniles smoking pot on the steps of a house on Sept. 16 at about 5:30 p.m., officers took one of the youth into custody and later released him to his mother.
• A resident of Gooding Avenue complained to police about noise from a nearby wind turbine on Sept. 16 at about 9 p.m. The responding officer recorded a 51-dB noise level, not in violation of town noise ordinances.
• After receiving a tip about a car parked on Bay View Avenue on Sept. 19 at about 8:45 a.m., officers learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen by Warwick Police and notified the Warwick department of the discovery.
• Officers asked a group of video gamers to lower the noise after receiving a call at about 2 a.m. on Sept. 20. Officers recorded a 20-dB noise level from the Thompson Avenue residence.
• On Sept. 21, officers brought a dog to the local shelter after a resident of Sherman Avenue caught the animal around 11 a.m.
