Obituary: George Mello, 82

George Mello, 82, of Wood Street, Bristol, died peacefully Tuesday, November 24, 2015.

Mr. George Mello, 82, of Wood Street, Bristol, died peacefully Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Silver Creek Manor Nursing Home, Bristol, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Janet M. (Sousa) Mello, his wife of 49 years who preceded him in death in 2014.

Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, he was a son of the late Antonio and Hermina (DaPonte) Mello. George was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Class of 1952, he was a retired Manufacturing Engineer for 30 years, retiring in 1996 from the Dixon Corporation in Bristol and he had previously worked for Brown and Sharpe Company, Providence. He was a Life Member of the Defiance Hose Co. No. 1, the Engine 4 Co. and the Bristol Rescue Squad of the Bristol Volunteer Fire Department. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Bristol and also a member of both the Bristol and Warren Senior Centers and a member of the Royal Travelers of Fall River, MA.

He is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, John and Alfred Mello and a sister, Margaret Vrana. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol.

Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours will be Friday, December 4, 2015 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol, RI 02809.
