RI Man Sues Soccer Star Cristiano Ronaldo Over 'CR7' Logo

Christopher Renzi, who reportedly lives in East Greenwich, claims he trademarked the phrase in 2009.

A Rhode Island man claims soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo deserves a red card for using the logo “CR7” on his underwear line.

The Associated Press reported Christopher Renzi filed a lawsuit this week against Ronaldo—a forward for Real Madrid who also led Portugal’s squad in this year’s World Cup.

Renzi claims that he trademarked “CR7”—a combination of his initials and birthday—for clothing and an exercise program he developed. He also sued Denmark-based JBS Textile Group, which produces Ronaldo’s underwear line.
