Roger Williams Polo Team Competes in NCAA Tournament
The RWU men's polo team is the number two seed in the national championships. The games start Monday in Santa Barbara, Calif.

BRISTOL, RI — The Roger Williams University men's polo team is playing for the national championship. The tournament starts Monday, April 3 in Santa Barbara, Calif., and continues through April 8.
The polo program started a year ago, so this is just the Hawks' second season.
They're the No. 2 seed in the six-team field at the United States Polo Association Intercollegiate National Championship Tournament.

“You don’t see too many programs that can be that good this quickly,” said David M. Kemmy, RWU’s director of athletics, intramurals and recreation. “To have polo achieve at this level is pretty awesome. Little Roger Williams University is competing with the big boys.”
The other contenders are the University of Virginia (the No. 1 seed), Texas A&M, Cornell University, Southern Methodist University and California Polytechnic State University.

Ted Torrey is the coach. Three sophomores, Pedro Cabrera, George Hempt and Daymar Rosser, are the team. The team is coming off a 15-14 win over Cornell University in the Northeast Regional Championship.
