School Committee To Discuss Kickemuit Middle School Concerns

Recent issues at Kickemuit Middle School will be discussed during Monday night's school committee meeting.

WARREN, R.I. -- Staffing issues at Kickemuit Middle School will be discussed at the Bristol-Warren Regional School Committee meeting Monday night following the recent teacher "sick out" that cancelled school on February 1.

The public is welcome to attend and public comment will be accepted. The meeting will be held in the Mount Hope High School cafeteria on Chestnut Street at 7 p.m.

Mounting concerns from teachers over student and staff safety were behind the sick out.

"Teachers have been concerned about student and staff safety and have engaged in numerous conversations in an attempt to work with administration over the past year and a half to address and resolve these concerns," read a statement from the teacher's union on the day of the sick out. "These attempts by the Bristol Warren Education Association to work with the Bristol-Warren Regional School District have not resulted in satisfactory actions by the administration to ensure provisions of a well-organized and disciplined school, despite our willingness to be part of a proactive plan to address the escalating behaviors of students at Kickemuit Middle School."
